International applicants receive the same funding as domestic students. Applicants need a recognised bachelor\'s degree or equivalent and strong preparation for research-intensive psychology. Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to contact potential faculty advisers and confirm research fit before applying.
The University of Pennsylvania Psychology PhD provides research-intensive doctoral training with a guaranteed five-year funding package for admitted international and domestic students. Applicants should identify faculty members whose current research matches their interests.
Benefits
Five years of guaranteed support for international and domestic students, including full tuition, health insurance and a stipend of at least USD 40,500 per year, including summer research and teaching support. Funding may come from teaching fellowships, research grants or individual fellowships.
Requirements
GRE General Test required for Fall 2027; TOEFL or IELTS required unless the applicant qualifies for Penn\'s English-language exemption; three recommendations; transcripts; CV and research-focused personal statement. Applicants should identify faculty whose laboratories and current research closely match their proposed work. This is a PhD-only admission route, not a terminal master\'s programme.
How to apply
The application opens 1 October 2026. Submit the complete online application, recommendations, test scores and supporting documents by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on 8 December 2026.
