Full opportunity detailsUgandan citizens may apply because the route is not nationality-restricted. Applicants with qualifications fully recognised in Germany can use the skilled-worker route. Other applicants generally need a university degree or at least two-year vocational qualification recognised by the state where it was obtained, German at A1 or English at B2 and at least six points based on criteria such as qualification recognition, professional experience, language skills, age and previous Germany experience. Applicants must demonstrate adequate financial means.
Germany\'s Opportunity Card allows eligible qualified workers from abroad to enter Germany to search for suitable employment. Applicants can qualify either through a recognised German-equivalent qualification or through a points-based route.
Benefits
The Opportunity Card permits residence in Germany for job search and allows limited employment while searching. Applicants may use qualifying part-time work toward the financial-resources requirement. Once suitable employment is obtained, the holder can apply for the appropriate German employment residence permit.
Requirements
Applicants need a valid passport, evidence of the qualifying academic or vocational credential, evidence of recognition or state recognition as applicable, language certificates when using the points route and proof of sufficient funds. For 2026, the official guidance uses at least €1,091 net per month as the relevant financial benchmark, subject to the applicant\'s circumstances.
How to apply
Complete the official Opportunity Card eligibility check, gather qualification, language, identity and financial evidence and submit the visa application through Germany\'s competent diplomatic mission or the Federal Foreign Office Consular Services Portal where online applications are available.
