Uganda qualifies as a developing-country Party to the Convention on Biological Diversity. Proposals must be country-owned and developed with an eligible United Nations Participating Organisation, with formal endorsement by the relevant national CBD focal point or lead government ministry. Non-UN entities may participate as implementing partners or subpartners under the approved project structure.
The Kunming Biodiversity Fund finances projects that accelerate implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The 2026 call supports single-country and regional initiatives addressing biodiversity conservation, restoration, mainstreaming, finance, capacity and benefit-sharing priorities.
Benefits
Single-country projects can receive up to USD 500,000 and multi-country regional projects can receive up to USD 800,000. Project duration must be between 12 and 24 months.
Requirements
Projects must address at least one eligible thematic area and respond to identified Global Biodiversity Framework implementation needs. Applications require the complete project-proposal template, budget, implementation and results framework, risk-management information and required national endorsement and UN-partner documentation.
How to apply
Develop the proposal jointly with an eligible UN Participating Organisation and obtain the required national endorsement. Complete the official project template and budget and submit the proposal to the Kunming Biodiversity Fund Secretariat using the submission instructions on the official call page. Proposals received by 2026-09-15 receive first-stage priority review; the final 2026 submission deadline is 2026-11-15.
