All Sub-Saharan African countries are eligible, including Uganda. Eligible applicants include project developers, energy-service companies, independent power producers, financial institutions and investment vehicles, commercial and industrial off-takers and end users, training and capacity-building providers, industry associations and consortia or partnerships with a designated lead applicant. Applicants must demonstrate technical, financial and operational capacity and contribute at least 25% of eligible project costs.
CICSA Phase II provides catalytic grant support to advance clean captive renewable-energy projects serving African commercial and industrial users. The programme targets projects capable of progressing toward implementation and investment readiness within 18 months of grant award.
Benefits
CICSA provides grant support and technical assistance to improve project bankability and unlock private investment. Transaction-cost and financing-vehicle-setup grants can reach USD 300,000, while capacity-building and training grants can reach USD 200,000.
Requirements
Projects must be located in Sub-Saharan Africa, demonstrate readiness to reach implementation within 18 months, include at least 25% co-financing and comply with applicable environmental and social safeguards, including relevant IFC and International Climate Initiative exclusion criteria. Selected applicants must participate in programme monitoring and share project data, lessons and good practices.
How to apply
Review the Phase II eligibility and grant categories, prepare the technical, financial, implementation, co-financing and environmental documentation required by CICSA and submit the proposal through the Apply Now route on the official call page.
