International scholars, including Ugandan citizens, are explicitly welcomed if they are eligible for a J-1 Scholar visa. CASBS supports established scholars across anthropology, economics, geography, law, political science, psychology, sociology and related humanistic, educational, communications, health, biological, natural and computer-science fields. The programme is not a postdoctoral fellowship.
CASBS brings accomplished scholars from social, behavioural and related sciences together for an intensive period of independent work and interdisciplinary exchange. Fellows participate in seminars, working groups and the wider Stanford intellectual community while developing a major project.
Benefits
First-time fellows may receive an academic-year stipend designed to supplement faculty sabbatical support or the base salary of non-academic fellows. Non-local first-time fellows receive a housing subsidy and eligible fellows arriving from outside the San Francisco Bay Area receive relocation support, including eligible family-related relocation calculations. Fellows receive Stanford library and sports privileges, dedicated workspace, research assistance, administrative support and access to Center programming. Health insurance is not provided or subsidised and international fellows must maintain insurance meeting J-1 requirements.
Requirements
Applicants submit a curriculum vitae of no more than three pages, a project statement, a 150-to-250-word partner-fellowship fit statement where applicable and two reference letters. Fellows are expected to reside near the Center and participate actively in required seminars, lunches and intellectual activities.
How to apply
Create an account in the official CASBS online application system, complete the fellowship form, upload the CV and project statement and arrange two references. Submit the complete application by 2026-10-30.
