Full opportunity detailsUgandan citizens are eligible as citizens from outside the EU and EEA if they obtain qualifying employment in Sweden. From 2026-06-16 the general salary requirement is at least SEK 34,470 per month, equal to 90% of Sweden\'s current median salary, and employment terms must also be at least equivalent to Swedish collective agreements or customary conditions in the occupation or industry. Certain occupations and applicant groups are subject to separately published exemptions, while specified occupations are excluded from the work-permit route.
Sweden\'s standard employee work permit enables employers to recruit workers from countries outside the EU and EEA when the employment satisfies Swedish labour-migration requirements. New salary and employer-compliance rules have applied since June 2026.
Benefits
A successful permit authorises the approved employment and residence in Sweden. Eligible accompanying family members can apply at the same time. The employee application fee is SEK 2,200, with fees of SEK 1,500 for adult family members and SEK 750 for children.
Requirements
Applicants need a qualifying Swedish employment offer, valid passport, employment terms meeting salary and collective-agreement standards and required insurance coverage. The employer must initiate the application by supplying employment information to the Swedish Migration Agency. The worker then completes the employee portion and uploads the requested identity, employment and supporting documents.
How to apply
Secure qualifying Swedish employment. The employer starts the online work-permit process and provides employment information to the Swedish Migration Agency. The applicant receives an electronic link, completes the worker section, uploads the requested documents and pays the application fee. A first-time applicant normally applies from outside Sweden.
