Who can apply

Ugandan citizens can qualify as third-country nationals if, within the preceding three years, they completed an eligible Dutch higher-education programme, Erasmus Mundus Joint Master, qualifying research appointment or an eligible Master\'s, doctoral or post-Master qualification from a designated top-ranked foreign institution under IND rules. Foreign qualifications may require Nuffic evaluation and applicable language evidence.

About this opportunity

The Dutch orientation-year permit allows qualifying recent graduates and researchers to live in the Netherlands for one year while looking for work or establishing a business. During the orientation year, holders can work without a separate work permit.

Benefits
The residence permit is valid for a maximum of one year. During that period the holder may work in the Netherlands without an employer obtaining a separate TWV work permit and may also pursue entrepreneurship. Eligible family members can apply for residence under the applicable family rules.

Requirements
Applicants need a valid passport and evidence of the qualifying degree, research or educational programme. Applicants relying on an eligible foreign institution may need credential evaluation and supporting language or ranking evidence. Applicants outside the Netherlands generally follow the MVV and residence-permit procedure and provide the required identity and civil-status documentation.

How to apply
Confirm that the qualifying education or research activity falls within the three-year eligibility window. Complete the IND orientation-year application using the procedure applicable to applicants inside or outside the Netherlands, provide the qualification and identity evidence and pay the EUR 254 application fee.
