Who can apply

Ugandan and other international applicants may apply. Applicants need a bachelor\'s degree in African Languages and Cultures or a sufficiently related programme. Applicants from comparable programmes must demonstrate substantial previous study of African linguistics, African languages, African cultures or related areas appropriate to the chosen study profile.

About this opportunity

A two-year English-taught research master\'s focusing on African linguistics, language documentation, multilingualism, language and culture, and Ethiopian and Eritrean studies. The programme is suitable for graduates seeking advanced Africa-focused research, education or consulting careers.

Benefits
University of Hamburg does not charge general tuition fees for this consecutive master\'s programme. Students pay the mandatory semester contribution and must finance accommodation, food, health insurance, travel, visa and other living expenses themselves. The programme is taught in English and provides advanced research training and opportunities to develop African-language expertise.

Requirements
Applicants must submit evidence of the qualifying bachelor\'s degree or current academic record, transcript of records showing relevant subject preparation, documentation needed for recognition of a foreign degree, and any programme-specific evidence of African linguistic, language or cultural preparation. English proficiency must meet the programme\'s requirements. Documents not issued in German or English must be accompanied by appropriate translations where required.

How to apply
During the application period, create or use a University of Hamburg STiNE applicant account, select African Languages and Cultures M.A., complete the online application and upload the programme-specific supporting documents. Applicants with foreign university qualifications should follow the university\'s foreign-degree recognition instructions and ensure all required evidence is submitted by the deadline.
