Ugandan researchers can apply through an eligible Ugandan administering organisation. Applicants must meet Wellcome\'s early-career degree or equivalent research-experience conditions and must not already have reached the research-independence level expected of a mid-career researcher. Proposed work must advance understanding of human life, health or wellbeing.

Wellcome Early-Career Awards support researchers from any discipline who are ready to establish their research identity through innovative work related to human life, health and wellbeing. Uganda is an eligible low- and middle-income-country location for administering organisations.

Benefits
Awards normally provide the applicant\'s salary and up to GBP 400,000 in research expenses for a project usually lasting up to five years. Certain eligible costs sit outside the GBP 400,000 limit, including qualifying visa and immigration expenses, overseas allowances and specified relocation or family-related costs.

Requirements
Applicants need an eligible administering organisation, a qualifying research proposal, appropriate early-career evidence, institutional support and a detailed budget. The application includes the scientific case, applicant information and all organisational and supporting information required through Wellcome Funding.

Confirm applicant and host-organisation eligibility, develop the research proposal and budget with the administering organisation and submit the complete application through Wellcome Funding by 15:00 GMT on 2026-11-10.
