Full opportunity detailsUganda is explicitly included among the Foundation\'s eligible countries. Applicants must be women who are citizens of eligible low- or middle-income countries where women are underrepresented in STEM. Candidates holding additional citizenship of a developed country are ineligible. Applicants must be preparing for a STEM PhD or postdoctoral research programme and must already have applied to, been admitted to or enrolled at a recognized research institution abroad. A strong academic record, relevant research background, teaching experience, leadership, community engagement and commitment to returning to the home country or region are required. Master\'s programmes are not funded.
The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future programme supports women from eligible developing countries undertaking doctoral or postdoctoral research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The fellowship promotes advanced research, academic leadership and the development of scientific expertise that can benefit applicants\' home countries.
Benefits
The fellowship provides individually assessed research funding of up to USD 50,000 annually for PhD studies and up to USD 40,000 annually for postdoctoral research. Eligible funding may include tuition and university fees, research-related costs, accommodation, living expenses, medical insurance, initial travel to the host country, visa expenses and conference participation. Awards are calculated according to documented costs, other available funding and the Foundation\'s assessment. Funding may be renewed subject to satisfactory progress, academic references and Foundation approval. Exceptional childcare support may be considered under specified conditions.
Requirements
Applicants must complete the Foundation\'s online application and document their academic qualifications, research plans, proposed host institution, academic achievements, teaching experience and future contribution to their home country. Applicants must provide evidence of having applied to or secured a place at an eligible institution abroad, academic references, information about other funding sources and a detailed account of expected study or research expenses. Applications must demonstrate leadership, commitment to STEM development and a credible intention to contribute to the home country or region after completion.
How to apply
Review the Foundation\'s eligibility criteria and identify a recognized overseas PhD programme or postdoctoral research institution. Apply to the host institution before submitting the fellowship application. Access the Foundation\'s online application system, complete the academic, research and financial sections, supply the required supporting documents and arrange academic references. Submit the application by November 7, 2026.
Explore opportunities from Uganda and abroad. Location describes where an opportunity is based; check the official eligibility rules to confirm whether Ugandan, African or other international applicants can apply.
Compare undergraduate, master's and PhD awards by eligible nationality, subject and funding coverage. A tuition waiver does not necessarily cover living costs, insurance or travel. For medical study, confirm the exact degree and whether clinical training is included. High school awards have different age and admission requirements from university scholarships.
For US universities offering full scholarships, check the university's international admissions and financial aid pages. Confirm whether admission and funding require separate applications, and whether support is renewable each year.
For internships in Europe or elsewhere, check nationality and enrolment requirements, the stipend, accommodation and travel coverage. Paid does not necessarily mean fully funded. Remote internships may still restrict the countries where participants can work. To intern abroad without programme fees, compare direct employer applications and check which costs you must pay yourself.
For summer placements, verify the start date and application year in the official call. Search the listings for a provider or subject, such as Expedia, EU delegation traineeships or agriculture in Germany, and confirm availability with that organisation.
Check the posting date, closing date, duty station and required experience. For jobs with no experience, look for an explicit entry-level or graduate requirement; an urgent vacancy may still require experience. Verify American Embassy vacancies through the embassy's official recruitment service and New Vision vacancies against the original employer notice.
Use the intake and deadline in each listing when comparing 2026 and 2027 opportunities. A 2022 notice is historical unless the provider has published a new call. Before applying to Yale Young African Scholars or an opportunity described as a UNICEF scholarship, verify the programme name, funding and current eligibility directly with the organisation. A search phrase alone does not confirm an available award.
