The scholarship is open to all first-year applicants, including international students. Selection considers academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and the applicant’s potential to contribute to the university community.

The Johnson Scholarship is Washington and Lee University’s premier undergraduate merit award and is offered to up to 10% of each incoming class. International applicants may compete on the same scholarship application timeline.

Benefits

Requirements
Applicants must complete a first-year admission application and submit the required Johnson Scholarship supplemental essay by 11:59 p.m. in their local time zone on December 1, 2026.
