Review the official criteria before applying
Ugandan citizens may enter because U.S. citizenship is not required. Entrants must be 34 or younger on 2026-12-31 and submit eligible professional journalism that appeared in U.S.-controlled media during 2026. One entry is permitted per individual and may consist of one piece or up to three closely related pieces. Eligible formats include text, video, audio and data visualisation; still photography alone is not eligible.

The Livingston Awards recognise outstanding reporting by journalists younger than 35 in local, national and international reporting. Entry forms for journalism published during calendar year 2026 are officially scheduled to open in November 2026.
Benefits
Three USD 10,000 prizes are awarded annually for outstanding local, national and international reporting. There is no entry fee, and prize money is paid directly to the winning journalists rather than their news organisations. Winners are honoured through Wallace House and participate in an award outreach event.
Requirements
Entries must consist of professional journalism published or broadcast during 2026 and directly related to current events or provide new information about past events. Applicants provide the eligible work, entrant and editor or producer contact information and requested production information. Finalists must provide proof of age using an accepted identity document.
