Who can apply

Review the official criteria before applying

Eligibility depends on the individual endowed fellowship. MIT explicitly identifies a number of OGE fellowships as open to international students, meaning qualified Ugandan students enrolled in or entering MIT may be eligible for unrestricted or appropriately matched awards. Individual nationality-specific fellowships may exclude them.

About this opportunity

Program overview and application information

The OGE Fellowships team requests that you report any external sources of fellowship funding through the form below.

Benefits
The oldest graduate fellowship program of its kind, the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program supports graduate students pursuing research-based master’s or doctoral degrees in various STEM fields. This prestigious award provides 3 full years of funding to recipients.

Requirements
Students do not submit directly to OGE. New nomination packets generally include a CV, transcript, a one-to-two-page research summary for enrolled students or statement of objectives for incoming students, a one-to-two-page community-involvement statement and two recommendation letters. Individual fellowships may impose additional eligibility restrictions.

How to apply
Identify an OGE fellowship for which the student meets the eligibility rules and contact the MIT departmental graduate administrator to request consideration. The departmental graduate office submits nominations to OGE on the student\'s behalf. MIT states that the next fellowship competition reopens in January 2027, with departments setting internal deadlines before the OGE March deadline; exact 2027 dates are not yet published.
