All nationalities, including Ugandans, are eligible. Academics, emeriti, independent scholars and artists may apply without a prescribed degree or Portuguese qualification. Projects must not require laboratory facilities or primarily concern practical application. Continuous residency and one presentation are expected.

Scholars and artists pursue independent intellectual projects within a residential interdisciplinary community. Fellowships normally last three to eight months.

Benefits
Individually determined stipend, travel, insurance and partial housing allowance; office, electronic and library resources; accommodation guidance; and a fellowship letter for visa purposes.

Requirements
CV, proposal of up to three pages explaining the project and residency objectives, and two referees. Requested reference letters must be submitted through MyGulbenkian.
